 esham

The man who was born of myth and legend on the New York streets Esham (Esham Smith) moved at an early age to Detroit, Michigan were he was raised through poverty, hardship and violence. Finding an outlet for his creativity and needing an escape from the cold and unforgiving streets he began rapping at an early age. Starting up his own label “Reel Life Productions” he managed to hustle and scrape together enough money to release his first album at only fifteen years of age. His dark, gritty and horrific style of music that could only be related to a graphic horror movie put to music was given the name Acid Rap. At the time no one had heard anything like it as it quickly set the Midwest on fire. With an iron mike and a venomous tongue he quickly established himself as one of the top MC’s. However he possessed a flare of ingenuity as well and it would be his ruthlessly intelligent business practices that would eventually secure him as a legend in the Hip Hop world.

Over time many would become influenced by his wicked rhymes including the Insane Clown Posse as well as other national artist who were captivated by his style. Indeed Esham started a whole wave of what became known as Horror Core rap that became Detroit’s very own sound. For this accomplishment Esham has been hailed as the godfather of Acid Rap and rightly so. His many releases over the years have created the foundation itself for underground music and he was the first to prove that you can be a success without being supported by mainstream media. In fact the mainstream world would not only not pick up on Eshams music, but they feared it.

Eventually his record company faltered in 2000 due to internal problems that you could write a book on. Several people went to jail over some bizarre circumstances and Esham, devastated by the circumstances, was left drifting for a short time trying to find a new home. Finally in 2002 he joined forces with Psychopathic Records finding a label that would allow him the creative freedoms and support that he had been seeking. He has since released albums that are causing a fire storm to brew igniting the world with acid flows. Operating with hardened experience, lyrical skills honed to perfection and media coverage that can no longer ignore his shine, he’s achieving super stardom on a worldwide scale.
